Paddle Easy Friends

While the world of Indie Rock is full steam ahead in 2011 the self proclaimed “Less is MORE” mantra of the Austin based Whalers’ new album Paddle Easy is here to blow your skirt up. The Whalers’ new EP Paddle Easy would suggest they have done anything but “paddle easy” while producing the tracks for their new album. With a strong start in 2010 they have grown in nearly every conceivable way. This eccentrically mellow wild bunch has contributed their individual sounds to create a catalogue as diverse as their Texas Triangle roots. Take the early 90’s grunge beat of Milos Bertram and drop in dueling guitarists Dan Martin and Kyle Rother that fight and drive the Whalers simultaneously forward and top it off with front man Gus Smalley’s Jaggeresque country rock vocal arrangement.

“how good was that?”, before hitting repeat. It really is good stuff and it means The Whalers are our first favorite new band of 2011.
